Floating market on Hydra. Every morning you can
buy fresh vegetables, fruits and fish from wooden boats in the harbour.
They bring their produce fresh from the farms of the Peloponnese and fish
the local seas. Octopus, squid and the rare lobster too, can be bargained
for. |

of town. Open 9am-1pm and 5pm-8.30pm Mon.-Sat. Fruit, vegetables, butcher,
fishmonger, frozen foods. Also a laundry. Prices are fixed. |

a colourful display. You can also find some more exotic items such as avocado
and kiwi fruits. |

Specialist pastry shops are popular some serving
ice cream and coffee. Hydra has one particular sweet produced on the island
which is a famous speciality, "Amigdalota" or almond cakes. Delicious!
It is the custom if invited to a house to take a gift box of Greek pastries
or cakes. |

SUPER MARKETS - There are at least six mini-supermarkets on the island
selling everything from barrels of feta cheese to the latest range of haircare
products! Hours may vary individually but generally you will find one supermarket
open : 8.30am-1.30pm 5pm-9.30pm. The supermarket on the port opens Sunday
as well. |
