The island of Hydra has two pharmacies. In Greece many prescription
drugs (such as antibiotics) are available across the counter. Vangelis
Raphalias owns the oldest pharmacy ("pharmakeion") which is a tourist attraction
in itself, dating as it does from the last century and retaining all its
antique fixtures. Pictured here, it is situated about 100 metres off the
port (up past the hospital). Opening hours vary, but generally Vangelis
is open every morning from 9am-1pm and most afternoons from 5pm-8pm. On
days when he is closed, you will find the other pharmacy is obliged to
be open and vice versa. |
