Bratsera was a charmed word to Greek sponge divers of the last century, being the mother ship where they relaxed after solitary hours on the seafloor. After a stay in any large city one will feel the same about the Bratsera hotel on the island of Hydra. The sponge factory established by Nickolaos Verneniotis in 1860 has been lovingly restored and turned into one of the most charming small hotels in Greece. Only two minutes walking distance from the port in a secluded court- yard it is open 11 months of the year. Twenty three rooms - typical Hydriot architecture at its best - a magnificent garden with a crystal, clear pool and most of all, Bratsera 's selected staff, are waiting to welcome you and show you the real meaning of Greek hospitality.

Old sponge industry buildings restored and converted into small hotel 2 minutes walking distance from the port in secluded courtyard. The hotel complex entirely surrounds a large garden of oleander and jacaranda, bougainvillea,, wild herbs and cypress. A court and colonnaded swimming pool occupy the spacious garden with colonnades bearing wisteria covered trellises beneath which meals are served. The architect of the hotel was awarded a EUROPA NOSTRA diploma in 1996 for his specific work of restoring the Bratsera.

 The Bratsera Hotel reception occupies the largest part of the old factory; of magnificent scale, it has an enchanting aura of the past.Its cheery fire place turns winter into an ideal holiday time for those cherish the startling light and mountain walks amid the astounding profusion of wild flowers. The English word halcyon comes from the Greek term used to describe the twenty days in January, of typically wondrous weather. 
Brathera's staff are eager to help you arrange activities to enhance your stay, be they boat trips to nearby bays and coves, or horse or mule expeditions to mountain top monasteries. Or, if you merely wish a chaise longue and a good book by the pool, welcome to the Bratsera. 
Bratsera's 23 rooms are individual in design, combining new and antique tile, whitewashed walls and decorated with nautical memorabilia. All are full of ample natural light, heated and air conditioned, with direct dial telephone, and beautifully appointed bathrooms provide essential comforts. The Virani suite occupies the top floor of a separate building dating from 1750, with a ceiling bordered by guilded and hand painted friezes.

 Breakfast, lunch and dinner can be also served in Bratsera's comfortable dining room. There you can taste the chef's specialties and enjoy the wonderful wine. The Grand hall seats a hundred people comfortably. Fully air-conditioned it is ideal for meetings and conferences and has been the site of exhibitions, lectures and recitals
